Sanjay Dutt, who is currently in Kolkata for a film festival received a bizarre call from the Bank of Baroda branch at Walkeshwar. It seems a Malabar Hill resident, Nishi Harishchandra Tripathi left all her belongings in the actor’s name after she succumbed to a terminal illness.
Dutt, who had no idea about this development, was “shocked” when he learnt about this fan’s gesture.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Dutt has written to the bank to hand over the contents in a safety deposit vault to her family members.
“As actors, we are used to fans naming their children after us, chasing us down the street and even giving us gifts. But this has shocked me. I will not be claiming anything. I did not know Nishi and I am very overwhelmed by the entire incident to speak about it.” – Sanjay Dutt to Mumbai Mirror
Tripathi, who lived with her 80-year-old mother Shanti, and siblings Arun, Ashish and Madhu at Triveni Apartments at Malabar Hill.
After her death, the family got a hold of letters willing all her belongings to Dutt.
Dutt’s attorney, Subhash Jadhav has clarified that the actor will not be accepting any money or property from Tripathi.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, even the fan’s family were unaware about her will until a representative of the Bank of Baroda’s Walkeshwar branch shared with Dutt’s attorney and Tripathi’s family members “a detailed letter and nomination form that she had submitted to the bank a few months before her death”.
Nishi Tripathi had even given Dutt’s Pali Hill address along with his name, “Film star Sanjay Dutt”.
This gesture surely qualifies to be in the top five of the “biggest fans of film stars”!
